What Are the Most Common Solitaire Mistakes?
Most lost Klondike games are not the result of bad luck - they are the result of a handful of recurring errors. Here are the mistakes that cost players the most wins in both Turn 1 and Turn 3 Solitaire.
Mistake 1: Moving Cards to the Foundation Too Early
Aces always go to the foundation immediately. But 2s, 3s, and 4s sometimes need to stay in the tableau as filler slots. Sending a red 3 to the foundation early removes a potential landing spot for a black 4 in the tableau. Hold off on low foundation cards until you are sure they are not needed below.
Mistake 2: Filling an Empty Column With Any Available King
An empty tableau column is one of the most valuable resources in the game. Filling it with a King that has no face-down cards beneath it wastes that slot. Reserve empty columns for Kings that will cascade into revealing multiple buried cards.
Mistake 3: Ignoring Stock-Cycle Phase in Turn 3
In draw-three Klondike, cards surface at the same position in every pass unless you remove a card. Playing a tableau move that "phases" the stock incorrectly can bury a needed card for two full cycles. Always know how many times you have passed through the deck.

Mistake 4: Never Drawing From the Stock
Many beginners try to solve the tableau entirely before touching the stock pile. This is backwards. The stock provides new cards and new options. Draw from it early, even in Turn 1, to get a complete picture of what is available.
Mistake 5: Moving Cards Without a Clear Reason
Every move should serve a purpose: reveal a face-down card, create an empty column, or enable a foundation play. Random shuffling of tableau cards burns through your options. Before each move, ask: "What does this achieve?"
Mistake 6: Giving Up Too Early
A game that looks stuck often has one or two moves remaining that unlock the path to victory. Use the undo button to backtrack and explore alternatives before abandoning the game. This is especially true in Turn 3 where cycle-phase changes can suddenly open the stock.
